Your Betting Methods at Chelt

How does everyone approach Cheltenham from a betting point of view then?

I am trying not to get involved in every race this year, like previous and focus more on my strong fancies.

What are you strongest bets?

At this stage I am going in on Binocular and Kasbah Bliss double at 5/1.

Fancy both really strongly and those odds are far too big imo.

i agree with you thommo, select a few horses and stick to that. Most of the other races throw up large outsiders. I have went for Kasbah, Binocular and thrown in MM as its a cert IMO.

Definitely going to try and not have any so called "interest bets" as that's my downfall every year have a couple winners and then can't figure out why i'm down and then i count up all the stupid small losing bets i've thrown away and can't believe what they have added up to

Instead of punting in every race, have any of you considered trying the placepot option instead?

I came mightily close last year going out in the last leg on the first day and it paid a handsome sum so I remember.

This keeps the interest up and costs as little as you want really to keep entertained.

I shall be looking to exploit the bookmaker free bet offers, and especially the Paddy Power Cousin Vinny refund offer, as my maths have worked it out you can make 25% back on all stakes, so that should help pay for my lumpy bets at Cheltenham.

Interesting to see what others think!

ive certainly had a look at flips since reading it on the forum and must say the bet if cousin vinny wins is quite good.

Having learnt my lesson in the past I bet small at this & Aintree. These races take so much winning & everybody is trying (unlike a normal day) & we saw yesterday that theres no dead certs, Cousin Vinny U/P & Binocular 3rd.

I usually have a maximum of a fiver win or place on each race just for an interest & probably a couple of luckys just in case my lucks in Just enjoying it rather than trying to make money really

I take Cheltenham quite seriosly and because there are years of statistics to go through, I feel even though the racing is more competitive, everything is trying and I have more success than when betting in sellers at Catterick because the stats get rid of a lot of dead wood.

I use the stats to narrow down my selections, sometimes I'll be left with 1 or 2 in a race, but more often than not there's 5 or 6.

Then I'll have a look at the ground, jockey and trainer and make a decision from there.

I'll usually have a good e/w on maybe 1 0r 2 in the race and then cover the others with smaller win and place bets.

The important thing is to not 'follow the money' cos that's when you start having 'daft' fivers e/w and they soon add up. Pick em out the night before and stick to what you've written down.

I always put on a £1 e/w lucky 15 and a placepot as well,, jsut in case!

I usually study in the morning at eliminating horses and then LAYING them for a place..always put the usual placepots on, but as for betting today, it is a minefield!!!!
