| Group 2 Level | Introducing BetAssistant - Free to OHRacing members! Hey all, I would like to introduce you to a piece of software that I've developed, that is designed to help sports bettors. Its called BETASSISTANT, and is basically a tool that you install on your Windows PC (not Mac or Linux, sorry!) to keep track of your bets with different bookmakers, both long and short term. The beauty of this is that you can then track your betting performance over the course of days/months/years and see how you're getting on. Also, you'll be able to spot which areas need improvement when it comes to discipline or betting strategy. Rather than explain it in minute detail, I've knocked up some screenshots to allow you to see the software 'in-action' so to speak. Please note, the figures, accounts and bets are pretty random stuff. ![]() Screen 1: Entering a bet ![]() From here, you can mark a bet as a short or long term proposition and enter bet details. The system works with decimal odds only but if you enter a fractional price, it'll work out the decimal for you. The rest of the entry is manual though (returns have to be entered manually, for example) - although I've made it as simple as possible to use. Screen 2: The Betlist ![]() This shows you your long and short-term bets, filtered into three groups. Short-Term Bets that end today; other short-term bets; and long-term bets. Long term bets are shuffled to the bottom so they don't get in the way. You can also click on "Show Settled Bets" to get a full listing of bets that you've entered results for. Screen 3: Banking ![]() This screen allows you to track opening balances, withdrawls, deposits, your current exposure by account, the profit you've made on the account and the like. This is purely for non-betting stuff, really - such as transfers to and from your poker account, or for when you do what I do and dump half your account to the croupier at the Blackjack table. ![]() Screen 4: Reporting ![]() This screen allows you to generate a report (by month) and graph showing your betting performance. You can filter by date, event and account. Some more features... - Multiple profiles. So, you can have a Golf profile, a Football profile, a Cash profile - whatever. - Multiple bookmaker accounts. You can track an unlimited amount of accounts in BetAssistant. - Fast Data Backup All data is stored in one file, so you can back it up...transfer it between PCs, etc. - Reporting Essentially, you'll be able to break your betting down into months and see your profit and loss. You'll also be able to see a list of bets from an individual event (such as the 2009 York Ebor Meeting) or from an individual bookmaker. I'm hoping that this will be helpful. - Security As the software is manual, you don't need to enter passwords or anything like that anywhere. Also, the data is all stored in a file on your PC, and is never transmitted anywhere else. I have to say that I've been using it during development, and its already stopping me from making stupid bets - since I don't want them staring back at me from BetAssistant! ![]() It sounds like I'm trying to sell you the software - I'm not. I'm offering the package for free to OHRacing members when its finished. The main menu screen has two bookmaker offer banners that will make OHRacing a few quid if you use them to sign up with an account. If not, then it's all good. You can download the software from the link below. What I'm after is some suggestions as to what you'd want to see added to it? Also, would you even be interested in using it!?!? Let me know your thoughts, please... ![]() Download Link: [Only registered and activated users can see links. ] Last edited by Retroneous; 20-08-09 at 08:29 PM.. |

| Group 2 Level | BetAssistant Release Candidate 1 Now available! I've cracked on a hell of a lot quicker than I thought I would, and we now have a release candidate for BetAssistant!! Download, install....report any bugs or suggestions! This is fully working and works fine here on Vista (and should be fine on other versions of Windows) but your mileage may vary. Bear in mind that under the "File" menu, you have the ability to backup your BetAssistant database. I STRONGLY SUGGEST THAT YOU DO THIS OFTEN. Bear in mind that this is beta version software, so crashes may well happen. If the application crashes, the likelihood is that you'll lose the bet you were amending or entering, and nothing else - but best to be safe! If the software does crash, fails to install or anything else, post the FULL error message in here and I'll get it fixed as soon as I can for you ![]() The software will create shortcuts on your desktop and in your start menu by default (mainly because I couldn't work out how to give you the option to say that you didn't want 'em! )You can download it from the link in the opening post... Have fun! Last edited by Retroneous; 20-08-09 at 08:30 PM.. |

| Group 2 Level | Nice one! ![]() One thing I'm concerned about is the size of the window. I use quite a big screen (21") so it was tough to envisage it fitting on all sizes of screen and still being usable. I made it small so it would fit and I don't know what size screen you guys use, but it MIGHT be a bit small and blurry on some resolutions and screens. Lemme know how you get on ![]() Oh, and if I've left any bet types out of the list that you can choose from, let me know and I'll add them. Just for reference (and in case it makes no sense!), you have MARKETS and EVENTS. EVENTS are the overall event names (and you can report on these) such as "York Ebor Meeting 2009" MARKETS are the individual markets within that event, such as "Great Voltigeur Stakes" Had to do it like that so that you could head into the reporting section and see how you did betting on the USPGA Championship or last year's Grand National Meeting, for example. For "general" events such as day-to-day racing or footy, I'd suggest putting the EVENT name as "UK Horse Racing" or "English Premier League" as I've done in the screenies up top. | Group 2 Level | Ok, fixed - if anyone else gets that error...you need to do this. Go into your c:/program files/betassistant/ folder. Right click on the "betassistant.accdb" file. Choose "Properties" Choose the "Security" tab Make sure your user has full access to the file. If not, change it so it does. And I'll work out how to make it do that automatically. ![]() |

| Administrator | I've been putting some random bets into the system and I've noticed there are still a few bugs we need Ken to iron out. So I've put a proposal through to Ken that I'd test the program for a day or so, and try to find every bug that is hidden in amongst the program. We've made rapid progress in about the last half hour, finding three bugs which have now been fixed but I don't want you guys using this and putting data into the system if it simply isn't going to be of any use. So I'll sacrifice myself for the good of the forum. Hopefully everything will be sorted by tomorrow evening. |
