Location: North East | Sectional times BCD Anyone else looking forward to what happens Saturday with this? Hopefully the TV companys do it properly and have the clock in the corner a bit like the athletics and the info is readily available after for each horse. I dont think it will catch on but it has made Saturday more interesting for me. |

Location: North East | I thought it would of been better advertised to be honesty. It was hard finding the results(even then they didnt bother with the last race) and ATR/BBC didnt make much effort. If it was available to every flat race i think people will take to it. |

| The Iron Horse | Depends what you are looking to do really. There was a calculation used in one of Beyer's books (think it was The Winning Horseplayer) which gives you a rough workabout way of devising your own pace figures. I have yet to read the Modern Pace Handicapping book by Tom Brohamer, but assume that will be more thorough and probably a better way of doing things. Just looking through my Meydan Pacefigure sheet now, and I've been creating them at 2F intervals, and your formula should look similar to this. =SUM(FURLONG/(SECTIONALTIME))*10000 This will give you a three digit number, for example a 26.78 (2F) sectional would be 2/26.78 = 0.0746 x 10000 = 746. For the next sectional (would be 4F) you'd do a slightly different formula, =SUM(FURLONG/4F SECTIONAL - 2F SECTIONAL))*1000 and so on. I'm not entirely sure what this tells me, and I'm not entirely sure if it will tell you what to back next time, but it has thrown up a few winners for me in Dubai this winter, and it also gives you an idea as to how the race was run, and what run fastest at what time. Hope this helps mate! |

| The Iron Horse | Coming back to this been at a bit of a lose end today so decided to do some pace figures for the Sprint & Mile race at last years QIPCO Champions Day, and have come up with the following....
As you can see from the above, Hooray ran the fastest 0-2F sectional, but despite running quicker than most of the field from 2-4F, she was bettered by Midnight Cloud, and Royal Rock closed off the final 4-6F quicker than anything else in the race.
As you can see from above early pace-setter Bullet Train clocked the fastest opening 2F sectional, and narrowly edged ahead of Poets Voice (by 1) in the second (2-4F) sectional. Poets Voice was very slow away and made up plenty of ground to run that quicky, and was just 3pts off (and level with Frankel) than a more conservatively ridden Immortal Voice who topped the numbers from (4-6F). After his early exertions Poets Voice then clocked a fairly poor final 2F (bettered only by pacemaker Bullet Train), and according to my pace figures he would have finished fourth with a more conservative ride such as Immortal Verse got. The last two furlongs Frankel blitzed them, and ran 23pts clear of the field at the line to record an impressive success. Not sure what this tells me but thought I'd throw it up there and see if anyone else would like to comment on the method/idea. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Location: North East | The way I would look at the data would be to see how the race was run. In America they can see a pattern in a horses past performances (this is easier to compare also since most courses are identical) due to the amount of data they have and historical of courses and the horse itself, This means we have to look at the race for what it is. To the eye you can think a race has started really fast or turned into a jog and sprint but with data like this you can see for certain as the times will not lie. Thoughts anyone? |
