And in the sub-plot, Native Khan beat Recital

The Queen got a kind of last laugh on me, as she mugged my e/w shrewdie. I had a feeling that Memphsis Tennessee was actually better than Recital and if you watch the way Joseph O'Brien co-operated with Fallon in the Derrinstown by moving over to allow Recital the shortest way round the turn you could easily speculate that he lost more ground than the eventual winning margin.

I suppose Treasure Beach looks like the new Leger favourite, but I think there might be enough for you to consider Nathaniel

bizarre two classics,

one that looked all the way a winner gets bt into 2nd,
&
one that looks like it has no chance all the way around,

and goes and wins.

spooky or what

Time comparisons from the Derby and the C&D, 12F, 0-100 run 45 mins later

Authorized bt Nosferatu - 4.37 secs (handicap was tactically slow)
Workforce bt Fortuni - 3.35 secs
Pour Moi bt Fox Hunt - 2.31 (Fox Hunt holds a Hardwicke entry and could be group class horse)
High Chapperal bt Salim Toto - 2.16 secs
Sindaar bt Murghem - 2.10 secs
Galileo bt Lord Jim - 1.84 secs
North Light bt Starry Lodge - 1.53 secs
Sea The Stars bt Coin of the Realm - 1.46 secs (STS was a tactical Derby and should be give a '++')
Kris Kin bt Gallery God - 1.45 secs
Sir Percy bt Alfie Noakes - 1.37 secs
New Approach bt Bureaucrat - 1.35 secs
Motivator bt Crow Wood - 0.98 secs (Motivator eased slightly and Crow Wood would be one of the better handicap winners)

Any one knocked up the sections for Pour Moi and Carlton House compared to a few other benchmarks. If memory serves me right, there's a path that runs across the course at Tattenham Corner which makes Epsom about the easiest course of the lot to section time.

I think these two will shed some interesting light on the race, as both Treasure Beach and Memphsis provided targets for the field to aim at, and yet only two horses possessed the class to chase them down. Recitals and Native Khan's sections might be interesting too with a few to the Derrinstown being reversed and the latter representing the Guineas and presumably blessed with a touch of speed thus.

Might be interesting to see how they compare with the Oaks as that was a slow a race. Although my immediate Leger thoughts turned to Nathaniel, I'm just wondering all of a sudden if Dancing Rain doesn't become a Doncaster candidate

i reckon the derby had a poor field in all fairness.

im not knocking the winner tho.
or the 1st 4, but the rest look very average.

some look like they were shootin for the stars

I'd go further Kiddie.

I don't believe Treasure Beach or Memphis Tennessee are big fish. A genuine group 1 horse would have chased them down. Only 2 got near. One succeeded and the other split them with a few excuses.

Very similar to last year when At First Sight ran a similar race and only one horse proved good enough to chase him down, and duly went on to confirm his class at Longchamp, the rest of the field did little for the form really. I see no reason why this year shouldn't be any different.

I'll concede that Carlton House was better than I thought. I did have him finishing second to Pour Moi on one of my projections admittedly, but I had to grant him the benefit of every doubt to do so. I'm also satisfied that I had Recital right and don't expect him to do much, but he might inherit a weak renewal at the Curragh if everything is set up for him. I think on balance I also got the Dante right as a race, but would be interested to see Seville tried in the Eclipse.

Going forward I think we need to look at this race to find an Edward VII winner, as it normally provides it (wouldn't be totally shocked to see Recital given this assignment either). And I think there might be a few clues for the Leger, even if I think Nathaniel looks good for that.

I'd be interested to hear how Sea Moon develops in the next month or so too
